M 6.6 Earthquake 218km SW of Port Hardy

Posted by Karl Lundgren on

At 10:39pm local time this evening a 6.6 magnitude earthquake occurred off the west coast of Vancouver Island.  No reports of damage as of yet and no tsunami warnings appear to have been issued.

We immediately posted it to social media asking our followers to let us know if they felt it or not.  So far, no one has reported feeling it, even in communities on the middle west coast of Vancouver Island.  You would typically expect some reports of shaking to come in for a quake of this size, but we appear to have dodged a bullet.

For more updates and ongoing details please visit the USGS page and we'll do our best to update this post as needed.
